So...I was flipping through the channels on the idiot box (more commonly known as "the television") and was distracted by a very upsetting commercial.
It's a commercial on Disney Channel for kids to win a thing to meet Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers or something. They also get to record in a studio. Okay, that's cool. But what else do they get? A $10,000 college scholarship!
What the fuck?!
I'm sorry but that is not right in anyway shape or form. The children entering these contests probably aren't even thinking about college, let alone worrying about money. Plus they just get this wonderful gift by getting their stupid name pulled out of a hat. What about kids who are desperately trying to get scholarships, but can't because there are too many kids or something?
Like academics...you can be an incredibly bright person, but you won't get that scholarship...it'll go to someone less deserving. Or someone that has a whole shit load already. The kid who wins this probably has a family that can easily support them in school or isn't the brightest bulb in the box.
I'm sorry, but that just really pissed me off. Man...if I could win that much money by my name getting pulled out of a hat. Pfft. Sign me up.
Now I'm off to worry about my own college scholarship applications. Wonder what I'll get?
